We head across
the river to the the roof of the Lower East Side's Open
Road Rooftop Project for our official opening night
on Friday, June 8th, followed by a raucous after-party
down the block at Fontana's,
with plenty of free drinks for all in attendance, courtesy
of Dewar's and Martin Miller's Gin.

In 2007, we'll be coupling films and neighborhoods in
unique ways that no other festival does, using these
amazing but under-seen films to create meaningful connections
within communities.

*Losers and Winners (directed by Ulrike
Franke & Michael Loeken, winner of Best Documentary
at Hot Docs), an extraordinary film about 400 Chinese
workers who break down a massive German industrial plant
and ship it back to their homeland, will be screening
at The Old American Can Factory, a converted factory
complex in Gowanus, Brooklyn, as part of our INDUSTRIANCE¦
series of films exploring the changing landscape in
industry, manufacturing, architecture and agriculture.
*Murder Party (directed by Jeremy Saulnier),
a horror-comedy set in the industrial wastelands of
Brooklyn, will be screening at Automotive High School,
in the midst of the factories, warehouses and artists
lofts of Williamsburg.
*Hard Road Home (directed by Macky
Alston & Andrea Meller) -- a documentary about the
people at the Exodus Transitional Community, a program
in Harlem dedicated to breaking the cycle of incarceration
that ensnares so many -- will be screening on the roof
of El Museo del Barrio, just a few blocks from where
the film was shot.
*Our ever-popular annual "New York Non-Fiction"
short film program -- movies about New York”s dirty
secrets, unexpected urban splendor, and the people,
communities and cultures you won”t find anywhere else
-- will be screened atop the Open Road Rooftop Project,
a new community space at New Design High School in the
Lower East Side.
*We will be collaborating with The Friends of
the High Line, a non-profit organization dedicated
to the preservation and reuse of the elevated railway
that runs along the West Side of Manhattan, to host
a screening on the roof of the Westbeth Center, showing
short films which will express the potential vibrancy
and unique urban wilderness of the High Line.
*And on the 4th of July, we will be at the pier at Solar
One, co-hosting our "Un-American Films"
event, a huge party including an open bar, great food,
live music, edgy stand-up comedy, and the best view
of the fireworks you'll find anywhere in the city!
