It’s August, summer is winding down, and we are all faced with the unpleasant reality that lazy summer days and long summer nights won’t stick around forever. So to help you get the most out of every night you have left, the Alamo Drafthouse and Levi’s® are giving film lovers across the country the chance to see some of the best films of ever made, for free and out of doors, in the famous locations where they were shot or set.

For those of you who have never been to Austin, The Alamo Drafthouse is a really amazing Texas-based independent movie theater chain that specializes in putting together fun, smart, integrative film events, both indoors and out. They are a natural partner for Rooftop, and we are excited to be partnering with them on one leg of their Rolling Roadshow.

AUGUST 27TH: THE GODFATHER: PART II IN NEW YORK CITY

Starting as a bestselling crime novel, The Godfather saga became, in the hands of Francis Ford Coppola, a rich tapestry of 20th century American life.  The first film dazzled audiences with the scope of its story and the deftly woven authenticity Coppola (and his brilliant cast) conveyed.

It seemed like an insurmountable achievement but with the sequel, Coppola both broadened and deepened the story of the Corleone clan. The Godfather: Part II would go on to become one of the most acclaimed motion pictures ever made and the winner of six Academy Awards. In the first chapter Marlon Brando delineated Vito Corleone with an artists’ precision, in part two young Robert De Niro provided coloring and shading worthy of the master. Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and others act with the kind of finesse that washes away the boundaries between fiction and truth. It’s the great American family saga; our primal myth; our truth, washed in blood.

“Godfather Part II is one of my all-time favorite films, and Deniro’s escape across the rooftop is a pivotal moment for the film. The combination of a great location and a great film is the perfect way to close the 2010 Rolling Roadshow Tour.”
–Tim League, CEO/Founder of Alamo Drafthouse

On August 27th, you can watch the film from a rooftop near Little Italy, where a young Vito Corleone stalked his first hit.
