Catch “The Good, The Bad, The Weird” and “Arthur” this week as the Epix free for all continues!

This week, in keeping with what has already become somewhat of a tradition, this week EPIX is once again screening two great films in two great locations and like always it’s all FREE so you really can’t complain. This time it’s a Wednesday night screening of The Good, The Bad, The Weird in Socrates Sculpture Park followed on Thursday by Arthur in Tompkins Square Park.

On wednesday we’re being treated to director Ji-woon Kim’s quirky reimagining of the classic western; like the title implies, think The Good, The Bad and The Ugly but just a little bit weirder. Set in the 1930s Manchurian desert where lawlessness rules and many different ethnic groups clash, three Korean men fatefully meet each other on a train. The train’s diverse passengers and imminent danger with guns and knives everywhere serves as a microcosm of the turbulent times. Do-won (JUNG Woo-sung) is a bounty hunter who tracks down any criminals with rewards on their heads. Chang-yi (LEE Byung-hun) is the leader of a group of tough-as-nails bandits. He cannot stand to be the second best. Tae-goo (SONG Kang-ho) is a train robber with nine lives. The three strangers engage in a chase across Manchuria to take possession of a map Tae-goo discovers while robbing the train. Also on the hunt for the mysterious map are the Japanese army and Asian bandits. In this unpredictable, escalating battle for the map, who will stand in the end as the winner?

On Thursday, if you are still reeling from the epic adventures of The Good, The Bad, The Weird,  EPIX is providing the perfect antidote; the original 1981 version of Arthur starring Dudley Moore (the original, not that remake with Russell Brand). This movie tells the story of loaded lothario Arthur as he navigates a hazy world of excess, emerging on the other side after finding true love. It’s hilarious and touching and it’s got Liza Minelli; it’s exactly what you want on a Thursday night.

Like at every EPIX screening this summer, Rooftop will also be presenting a short film prior to the movies. make sure you get down early to check those out! On Thursday, before Arthur we’ll be screening Gayby by Jonathan Lisecki; a film about two best friends from college, now in their 30s, whose relationship has dwindled to the occasional social-networking exchange. In an effort to “reconnect,” they decide to have a baby together, taking the easiest, cheapest route of just having sex–even though Matt is gay and Jenn is straight.
