The EPIX Movie Free-For-All continues this Monday with a screening of another classic in Coney Island; this time it’s Woody Allen’s seminal 1977 film Annie Hall, being shown in partnership with Verizon Fios and Coney Island Flicks on the Beach. If you haven’t seen this movie before this is an absolute must, and even if you have, I guarantee everything is just as hilarious whether it’s the second or third or sixth time around.

When most people hear the name Woody Allen, they think of two women: Soon-Yi and Annie Hall. Fortunately for Allen, his legacy in cinema had been cemented with the latter long before the former came along. With Oscar wins for best director, best picture and best actress for the radiantly quirky Diane Keaton, Annie Hall struck a chord with audiences outside of erudite Manhattan film houses-and with good reason. Sure, we get the standard dose of neurotic Woody-isms, but we also get a sweet, sad, hopeful tale that reminds us love is sweet, love is sad, and if we’re lucky, love is downright funny.

The screening kicks off at 7pm with some pre-movie music provided by our EPIX DJ. Rooftop will also be presenting a short film at 8.30pm prior to the feature so make sure you come early! This week it’s Kristen Lepore’s charming short Bottle; animated on location at a beach, in snow, and underwater. Bottle heartbreaking stop-motion short details a transoceanic love affair between two adorable bumps trading messages in a bottle.

EPIX will continue screening more of our favourite flicks on the beach as part of the eclectic EPIX Movie Free-For-All program. Over the next few weeks Coney Island will witness screenings of Moonstruck, Never Say Never (the Justin Bieber movie) and How She Move.

Venue: On the Beach at Coney Island. W 12th and the beach, right near Luna Park.
