This Week will be “Kick-Ass” at Epix Movie Free-For-All

EPIX Movie Free-For-All will be rounding off its 7th straight week of free films with a bang, or rather, some bloody punches. On Thursday night, Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass will be screening in Tompkins Square Park at 8pm. Kick-Ass, the name of which Dave Lizewski (played by the ever-easy-on-the-eyes Aaron Johnson) calls himself, tells the story of a boy who turns himself into a present-day superhero. The film, which takes place in undoubtedly the best city, also stars Chloe Moretz and Nicolas Cage, a father-daughter team that helps Lizewski take down a drug lord. Altogether, Kick-Ass is a party of our favorites (did I forget to mention the unforgettable Christopher Mintz-Plasse from Superbad plays an evil character?), and one that, although surprisingly gory and violent, still remains to be funny and poignant.

But preceding Kick-Ass, Rooftop Films will be screening Andy and Zach, a short film by Nick Paley. The 10 minute film follows Andy, a socially awkward guy who must learn to cope when his roomie/best friend Zach decides to move out. Paley’s Andy and Zach, a film that is  both humorous and honest, shows us that the maintenance of a bromance is much more difficult–and requires much more care–than we think.

And we haven’t even started on the live entertainment yet! Wesleyan University has given birth to yet another band, but instead of electronic duos, starting off the night will be the funkier, fuller sound of the 8 person band that is Mamarazzi. Poet/Activist/World Traveler Kesed will also be performing live this night. Kesed has won numerous awards for his live poetry, and  has performed around the world. But despite appearing on Sprite commercials and performing with the likes of Arrested Development, Kesed is better known for what he does best: poetry with a purpose.

EPIX Movie Free-For-All will only be screening 3 more weeks of unforgettable films, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to take advantage of this priceless experience of free films and live music, outdoors, in our beautiful city.
