Look Out! Flicks on the Beach Returns to Coney Island July 2nd

We are please to announce the return of Flicks on the Beach to Coney Island starting this July, presented by NYC & Co. and Rooftop Films. This season’s lineup brings up and coming filmmakers, modern classics, and a historic celebration.

Thanks to the Coney Island Development Corp. as well as NYC & Co., these FREE screenings will be coming to the Coney Island Boardwalk every Monday from July 2nd – August 6th, as well as a special screening on Saturday July 14th.

In addition to these Coney Island events, NYC & Co. and Rooftop Films will present special outdoor events in all 5 boroughs, from Bronx Terminal Market to St. George, Staten Island. For a full listing of all special events, visit nycgo.com/rooftopfilms .

Kicking off next week with the classic comedy Ghostbusters, each screening will take place on the beach adjacent to Coney Island’s historic boardwalk and amusement park. At dusk, exciting films classic and modern will light up a 40-foot screen on the beach for what promises to be an exciting addition to the summer’s outdoor screening events.

July 14
Bound for Glory (1976)
David Carradine plays Woody Guthrie in this Oscar-winning biopic, set in the Dust Bowl, about the folk artist’s experience with the working class after leaving Texas to join the Okies headed to California in search of work. This special Saturday screening commemorates the legendary folk singer and former Coney Island resident’s 100th birthday.

The Muppets (2011)
Jim Henson’s much-loved characters return to the big screen, as Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) aim to reunite the gang in an attempt to salvage The Muppet Theater.

July 30
Girl Walk // All Day (2011)
This feature-length film is actually a long-form dance music video, featuring three dancers who use the cityscape as their stage. The movie is set to Girl Talk’s sample-heavy 2010 album, All Day.

August 6
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011)
Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt in the fourth installment of the Mission Impossible series. Hunt and his team, who are implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, must go rogue to clear the Impossible Missions Force’s name.
