Little Fugitive Screening on August 27

Rooftop Films is partnering with the Alliance for Coney Island and NYC & Co. to present a 60th-anniversary screening of Little Fugitive on Tuesday, August 27 in conjunction with the Artists Public Domain/Cinema Conservancy release.

The pre-show entertainment will begin at 7:30 on the beach near West 10th Street, followed by the film at sundown. Mary Engel, daughter of the film’s famed directors, will introduce the film–“My dad used to say his veins were full of sand from Coney Island,” she has said. Few films could be as fitting to accompany the start of the park’s new life.

Six year old Joey (first-time actor Richie Andrusco, who was discovered by the filmmakers at Coney Island), is on the lam from a crime he thinks he committed, but was really a prank by his older brother.  With his Mom away visiting Grandma, and with only a few dollars in his pocket, Richie hides out at Coney Island, eating, playing skee-ball, eating some more, and riding his favorite pony.  Little Fugitive is fun for the whole family, and is a perfect time capsule of Coney in the early 50’s.
