Ep 192: Bryan Poyser Returns

[powerpress]

Film director Bryan Poyser (Dear Pillow, Lovers of Hate) returns to the podcast. When we last heard from Bryan he was amidst a Kickstarter campaign for his latest movie, Love & Air Sex (f/k/a The Bounceback). Well, the campaign was a big success, and now the film —which is being distributed by Tribeca Film— is premiering this evening in New York City. If you buy tickets at the Cinema Village for either this evening or Saturday evenings’ 7PM shows, not only do you get to watch a great indie comedy, but you will also get a Q&A with the filmmaker and various cast members. If that weren’t enough, for the price of that same ticket you also get an actual live Air Sex demonstration by one of the top performers in the game! If that grabs you, you can then join folks afterward for the “Air Sex Winter Classic” to take place at 11pm on 2/7 at DROMTickets for that are available and sold separately… if you dare.

While Love & Air Sex is currently available on assorted digital platforms, the film will be opening theatrically in Austin, TX next Friday, February the 14th at the Alamo Drafthouse; then more widely after that. Check here for complete details. The film has been selected by the New York Times as a Critics’ Pick. Read the review! Fans of Bryan’s may also find his earlier films including some short films and his first feature Dear Pillow on Fandor’s website; as well as his last feature Lovers of Hate, which may be viewed on iTunes or Amazon Instant Video.

In the post-segment wrap up, I do touch on some matters that have been in recent indie film headlines including some controversial New York Times’ articles, as well as my thoughts on the Woody Allen fracas, and the passing of Philip Seymour Hoffman.
