Ep 273: DJ Spooky & Bret Wood • Sean Gullette • Margaret Brown

[powerpress]
Artist/writer/musician Paul Miller aka DJ Spooky discusses his contributions to the Kino Lorber box set PIONEERS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN CINEMA of which he is Exec Producer. This one of the projects which is part of Kickstarter’s Archive Projects initiative (see Episode 272). Also joining me at the top of the show is the box set’s producer Bret Wood [6 mins. 30 secs]. I’m happy to announce that this segment is sponsored by Flicker Alley, who publishes new, high-quality, digital restorations of classic, silent, and avant-garde films. Proud of this new partnership.

Then I am joined by filmmaker Sean Gullette [47 min.] to discuss his new film the Traitors which is currently available on a number of digital platforms including iTunes & Amazon and which will soon be available, thanks to Film Movement, on DVD as well (2/24). You may also remember Sean from his unforgettable role as Maximillian Cohen in Darren Aronofsky’s 1998 masterpiece, Pi.

Last up I welcome back documentary filmmaker Margaret Brown [1 hr 16 min] who discusses her 2004 film Be Here to Love Me which is currently available for streaming on demand on Fandor! (You can also stream her earlier film, The Order of Myths which I highly recommend.)
The end track is the Leslie Gore 1963 hit “You Don’t Own Me”. Ms. Gore died on Tuesday at the age of 68 of lung cancer.
