If there are no more reservations available you should definitely sign the waiting list as some spots always open up, and you can still eat and drink in Monkeytown's main space either way.

The Summer Series 2006 runs weekends from June 1st to September 15, in various outdoor locations all over the city, including the lawn of Automotive High School in Williamsburg, the roof of the Old American Can Factory in Gowanus, the roof of Downtown Community TV in TriBeCa, the Solar One pier on the East River, and other stunning spots. THE FILMS:
Klovnebarna (The Clown Children) (Jannicke Systad Jacobson & Karin Beate Nosterud | Norway & Guatemala | 6:00)
In the streets of Guatemala, dirty-faced kids don clown make-up and costumes and juggle and dance amidst the dense traffic. This gorgeous documentary is both entertaining and heartbreaking, without ever saying a word.
Tales of the Creepy Crooked: The Nyuggle
(Lee Kern | London | 3:00)
A veteran of Rooftop summers past, Lee returns in 2006 with a hilarious series of low-fi flicks investigating the myths and mysteries of the British Isles.
Frank and Wendy: Chapter 1
(Kaspar Jancis & Ulo Pikkov | Tallinn, Estonia | 10:00) For this screening we will be showing episode 1 of 8, but we plan to show all of their hysterical, surreal adventures this summer. Frank and Wendy was named the best Estonian animated film of 2005, but we assure you that it in no way resembles Wallace and Gromit. Instead, it tells the unbelievably weird story of two CIA agents battling against evil Latvians in the deadly streets of Estonia. Only Frank and Wendy can prevent these evils superpowers and their legions of Nazi dwarves from turning the citizens of the free world into sausages—but if Frank and Wendy are to prevail they must recruit the evil wizard-genius Dr. Woo. Only Dr. Woo can reverse irreversible processes. Only Dr. Woo has the power to turn Frank from a sausage back into a man.
Afloat (Erin Hudson | Palo Alto, CA | 6:00)
Erin Hudson will screen a number of films in the Summer Series 2006, including this gorgeous portrait of a pool full of aquasizing octogenarians. Also on the menu this summer is Erin's Long Haul, a documentary short about women truck drivers, supported in part by the Rooftop Filmmakers' Fund.
Selections from the Slo-Mo Video Festival This summer we will be screening many of the short slow motion videos from Ryan Junell's amazing Slo-Motion Video Fest. Here are a few of our favorites.
Calling Occupants
(Michelle and Laura Dean | California | 1:00)
A short, magical slo-mo journey to a land of glob- headed hula-hooping spacemen.
Bray One and Two and Three
(Clay Junell | San Francisco, CA | 3:00)
Three close-up slooooo motion moments in the mouths of salivating braying beasts.
The Four Kid Tenors
(Ryan Junell | San Francisco, CA | 1:00)
Lemme tell ya, these kids have some sets of pipes.
The Wraith of Cobble Hill (Adam King | Los Angeles, CA | 15:00)
In this subtle and sweet claymation set near Rooftop's home base, a lackadaisical teenager is trusted to look after neighbor's store and dog. His slacker ways and history of familial neglect are tested in this lovely coming-of-age drama.
Flatnap Prophesies, Vol 2 (Steve Collins | Austin, TX | 5:00)
In honor of Rooftop Films' 10th Anniversary, we will be hosting a handful of retrospective screenings, featuring favorites from past years. We have shown a film by Steve Collins in 9 of our 10 years, the exception being 2005, when he was finishing his first feature, Gretchen, which will have a gala sneak preview of it's own in at Rooftop Films June. To get you giddy for his dark and goofy comedy, here are a couple Collins classics.
Washington (Brad Neely | Austin, TX | 2:00)
An animated musical biography of some of the lesser known legends surrounding our nation's first president. Most people don't know, for example, that he made love like an eagle falling out of the sky.
Messenger (Daniel Leeb | Brooklyn, NY | 16:00)
A gritty and graceful portrait of one of NYC's fastest and freshest.
