Rooftop Films, Rooftop Farms

Between urban warehouse rooftop farms and a film festival about rural life based in New York City, Rooftop is all about embracing contrasts this August. Go green with us as we partner with Rural Route Film Festival to present two different sets of short films at Brooklyn Grange Farm this coming Sunday, August 5 at 8pm and at 10pm.  Started as an initiative for fiscally sustainable urban agriculture, Brooklyn Grange lives on a rooftop on Northern Boulevard in Long Island City.  Though it operates as a commercial farm, Brooklyn Grange is a community oriented, participatory green space that is open to public.

Co-presented with the Rural Route Festival on its closing night, which takes place this weekend, August 3-5, the screenings are down the street from the Museum of the Moving Image. The after party will feature free beer courtesy of Radeberger, fresh produce concessions, and video installations in the foyer. Rural Route showcases the work of filmmakers, focusing on rural and small town life and agriculturally based themes.  These perspectives often get lost in film festivals based in large cities such as New York.  Even if you’re a tried and true city dweller, chances are you’ll find something to get excited about in the line-up of shorts, ranging from documentary to comedy to animation.
