Support Rooftop Alum Talibah Newman’s “Sweet Honey Chile”

Rooftop alum Talibah Newman is raising funds for her thesis film Sweet Honey Chile on Kickstarter and needs our help. The film, inspired by her passion for telling stories about family, is about a young boy who is larger than life, but is trapped within the confines of an absurd, suffocating world weighed down by the trappings of poverty and a short fused, short-sighted mother.

As a current MFA film candidate at Columbia University, Talibah’s short film Busted on Brigham Lane screened as part of the the “Coming Home” program this summer to a very receptive audience and has screened around the nation at various festivals including Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival and American Black Film Festival’s 2012 HBO Short Film Competition. If Busted on Brigham Lane is any indication of her work to come, Sweet Honey Chile is sure to be great.

Talibah is asking for a total of  $14,000 to fund the production from start to finish so please give, spread the word, and support!
