Newlyweeds in theaters Sept 18th!

If you missed our sold-out screening of Newlyweeds on the roof of Trilok Fusion Center for the Arts this summer, now is your chance to see it! The “stoner dramedy” and feature debut from Rooftop Film Fund Grantee Shaka King will begin its theatrical run at Film Forum on September 18th. The filmmaker, along with stars Trae Harris and Amari Cheatom will be present for the 8:20 screening on opening night, Thursday the 18th, with appearances from various cast members, the writers and producer throughout the first week’s run.

Shaka King’s feature film debut is an insightful dark comedy about love and marijuana. Lyle works as a repo man, delivering some of the funniest and most serious scenes in the film. Nina is a free spirit and an occasional baker who decides to work at a children’s museum in order to save money for a trip to the Galapagos. And the only thing that keeps them both sane is smoking pot.

Don’t let the title fool you, Newlyweeds is a sophisticated stoner romantic comedy, a rare film that graciously walks the fine line between the ills and the humor of chemical dependency.

Following its debut at Film Forum, Newlyweeds will be showing at select theaters nationwide beginning on Friday 9/20. Tell your friends!
