What losing the NEA could mean for us

Dear members of the Rooftop Films Community,

Last Thursday, President Trump announced his federal budget plan, which proposed eliminating both the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Media arts, including film and television organizations have historically received the largest share of NEA funding. Rooftop Films has received NEA funding for each of the last 7 years, accounting for about 3%-5% of our annual budget. It may not seem like a lot, but as a 501c3 nonprofit the threat of losing that funding would mean the very real possibility of having to scale back our community programming in underserved neighborhoods across the NYC region. We can’t let this happen.

We’re asking you to help Rooftop Films, and the arts community of NYC in two ways:

First, please take a moment out of your day to let your representatives know that you support the arts. The America for the Arts Action Fund has created a campaign that will let you send a message to Congress and the Senate in under two minutes, which you can find here.

Second, please support Rooftop Films by making a donation or becoming a member today. Your support is vital to our unique work — no other nonprofit organization does what Rooftop Films does. By bringing films directly to diverse communities, Rooftop creates inspiring environments that truly change the way people feel about the spaces they inhabit and move through, and how they interact with and think of their community, their neighbors, their city, and the global issues that affect us all.

With Gratitude,
Rooftop Films
