Industrial Accident: The Story of Wax Trax! Records

Julia Nash | USA | 95

In the fall of 2010, a woman nervously exits a truck and enters a dilapidated Arkansas barn to retrieve the belongings of her deceased father and his partner. After a decade of neglect, the crumbling boxes and garbage bags containing a lost chapter in American music are about to come back home to Chicago. The two men in 1975, had opened a small shop in Denver named Wax Trax! Records before eventually moving the store to the mid-west where it becomes legendary to music fans across the globe. Using their independent Chicago retail store as a foundation, the two men begin to release music on their own label. This accidentally creates a new genre that begins to gain global recognition. As Wax Trax! grows in reputation a series of unfortunate events cascade through the business and its two creators, almost causing the label’s influential history to be lost forever.
