Three Free Shows at Metrotech Commons!

Rooftop Films is pleased to present three free shows at Metrotech Commons this summer! In partnership with Downtown Brooklyn and Forest City on three Fridays this summer, Metrotech Commons hosts two exciting collections of short films, as well as a screening of Five Star, the new film by Rooftop alum and FIlmmakers Fund Grantee Keith Miller.

On Friday June 6, check out a handpicked collection of some of our favorite Sundance Film Festival Shorts. This eclectic group of unique and wonderful shorts includes two contributions from Rooftop alumni: Rat Pack Rat (Todd Rohal), the strange tale a Sammy Davis Jr. impersonator, and Afronauts (Frances Bodomo), a haunting portrayal of the 1960s Space Race from the perspective of a Zambian Space Academy.

Keith Miller’s Five Star, which was awarded our Rooftop Films Fund Grant, is screened on Friday June 27. Filled with beautiful, meditative moments from everyday life, Five Star vividly depicts a teenager’s struggle in the projects while frequently blurring the line between fantasy and reality.

Broken Hearted: Twisted, Romantic Short Films, a collection of shorts about love, lust, and the dark passions which they stir, is presented on Friday July 11. Fittingly preceded by The Emotional Arcade an introspective installation-game where participants’ own emotions determine the game outcome via brainwave devices, these strange and stirring films include the directorial debut of Rose McGowan.
